چکیده
We study the dynamics of the relative motion of satellites in the gravitational field of the Earth, including the effects of the bulge of the Earth (the J2 effect). Using Routh reduction and dynamical systems ideas, a method is found that locates orbits such that a cluster of satellites remains close with very little dispersing, even with no controls.

J2 Dynamics and Formation Flight
We study the dynamics of the relative motion of satellites in the gravitational field of the Earth, including the effects of the bulge of the Earth (the J2 effect). Using Routh reduction and dynamical systems ideas, a method is found that locates orbits such that the cluster of satellites remains close with very little dispersing, even with no controls. The use of controls in the context of thi...
متن کاملSwarm Keeping Strategies for Spacecraft under J2 and Atmospheric Drag Perturbations
This paper presents several new open-loop guidance methods for spacecraft swarms composed of hundreds to thousands of agents with each spacecraft having modest capabilities. These methods have three main goals: preventing relative drift of the swarm, preventing collisions within the swarm, and minimizing the propellant used throughout the mission. The development of these methods progresses by ...
متن کاملAirborne Seeker Application in Three Dimensional Formation Flight of UAVs
This paper deals with the leader-follower formation control problem while communication constraint in data transmitting is considered. From a practical point of view, we study the case in which unmanned vehicles are subject to the limited sensing, and communication is of a particular interest. A three-dimensional formation flight of multi-unmanned aerial vehicles with leader-follower configurat...
متن کاملConsistent Structural Linearization in Flexible Aircraft Dynamics with Large Rigid-Body Motion
This paper investigates the linearization, using perturbation methods, of the structural deformations in the nonlinear flight dynamic response of aircraft with slender, flexible wings. The starting point is the coupling of a displacement-based geometrically nonlinear flexible-body dynamics formulation with a 3D unsteady vortex lattice method. This is followed by a linearization of the structura...
متن کاملPreliminary Results of Vehicle Formation Control Using Dynamic Inversion
Results are presented from a preliminary study to determine the potential benefits of utilizing dynamic inversion inspired by a structural analogy for formation control of a system of vehicles. Vehicles are modeled as unconstrained mass particles under the influence of control forces in an inertial reference frame. For a system of particles restricted to motion in one dimension only, equations ...
